A Teenager's Analysis of Eating Disorders

As caring adults, we struggle to understand why an adolescent would starve herself to death. What causes a bright, healthy young girl to turn her body into a weapon?

To answer this question, I received permission from a 17-year-old girl to publish her cogent analysis of Franz Kafka's Metamorphosis. She uses this classic work to illuminate, in a succinct yet powerful manner, the causes and consequences of eating disorders.

Gregor the Anorexic

Today, eating disorders are a widely discussed and observed tragedy. Yet, what is not as well known is that eating disorders have existed for hundreds of years. In Metamorphosis, Gregor Samsa exhibits the typical circumstances and symptoms of someone suffering from an eating disorder.

The causes of eating disorders are disputed, but there is a general consensus that pressure is a contributing factor. Gregor feels an obligation to pay his "debt to my (sic) parents" and save his family from poverty.

In addition, an eating disorder is a cry for help from someone who can't verbalize his anger and frustration. As a perfectionist and conformist, Gregor refrains from leaving his job even though he desperately wants to; as he says, "I would have quit long ago."

Of course, the most obvious sign of an eating disorder is the change in someone's physical appearance. People suffering from this tortuous disease have a twisted sense of their own appearance, and will perceive their quite ordinary looks as monstrous. Gregory's view of himself as a vermin, a bloated and misshapen creature, is an example of this shamed perception.

Secrecy is the life blood of an eating disorder. Someone trapped in this struggle will try to hide their condition for as long as possible. Initially, Gregor seeks to mask his voice and pretend he is in perfect shape. For as long as he can, Gregor tries to appear normal.

The underlying cause of an eating disorder is a lack of self-confidence. Gregor retreats under the sheet, stays in his room and doesn't fight to be understood - all a reflection of how little he believes in himself. Instead of finding the man within the bug, Gregor has spent too long viewing himself as a bug within a man.

Ultimately, as is the case with a significant percentage of anorexics, Gregor succumbs to his illness. Even more tragically, perhaps, no one bothers to mourn for him.

Eight Simple Anger Management Tips

"The other night I ate at a real family restaurant. Every table had an argument going."

One of the biggest obstacles to personal and career success is anger. When we fail to control our anger, we suffer several blows:

Anger impedes our ability to be happy, because anger and happiness are incompatible.

Anger sends marriages and other family relationships off-course.

Anger means lost business, because it destroys relationships.

Anger also means losing business that you could have won in a more gracious mood.

Anger leads to increased stress (ironic, since stress often increases anger).

We make mistakes when we are angry, because anger makes it harder to process information.

People are beginning to wake up to the dangers of anger and the need for anger management programs and strategies. Many people find anger easy to control. Yes, they do get angry. Everybody does. But some people find anger easier to manage than others. More people need to develop anger management skills.

For those who have a tough time controlling their anger, an anger management plan might help. Think of this as your emotional control class, and try these self-help anger management tips:

Ask yourself this question: "Will the object of my anger matter ten years from now?" Chances are, you will see things from a calmer perspective.

Ask yourself: "What is the worst consequence of the object of my anger?" If someone cut in front of you at the book store check-out, you will probably find that three minutes is not such a big deal.

Imagine yourself doing the same thing. Come on, admit that you sometimes cut in front of another driver, too ... sometimes by accident. Do you get angry at yourself?

Ask yourself this question: "Did that person do this to me on purpose?" In many cases, you will see that they were just careless or in a rush, and really did not mean you any harm.

Try counting to ten before saying anything. This may not address the anger directly, but it can minimize the damage you will do while angry.

Try some "new and improved" variations of counting to ten. For instance, try counting to ten with a deep slow breathe in between each number. Deep breathing -- from your diaphragm -- helps people relax.

Or try pacing your numbers as you count. The old "one-steamboat-two-steamboat, etc." trick seems kind of lame to me. Steamboats are not the best devices to reduce your steam. How about "One-chocolate-ice-cream-two-chocolate-ice-cream", or use something else that you find either pleasant or humorous.

Visualize a relaxing experience. Close your eyes, and travel there in your mind. Make it your stress-free oasis.

One thing I do not recommend is "venting" your anger. Sure, a couple swift blows to your pillow might make you feel better (better, at least, than the same blows to the door!), but research shows that "venting" anger only increases it. In fact, speaking or acting with any emotion simply rehearses, practices and builds that emotion.

If these tips do not help at all and you still feel you cannot manage your anger and the related stress, you may need some professional help, either in the form of a therapist specializing in anger management or a coach with a strong background in psychology.

Transcendental Meditation

Since 1958, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has trained more than 40,000 teachers in the practice of Transcendental Meditation or TM. These teachers have taught more than six million people worldwide this simple, natural procedure which allows its practitioners to gain deep rest and contact their inner reservoir of creativity, energy and intelligence. This information comes from the official Transcendental Meditation website at www.tm.org.

What happens during meditation

During the practice of TM, the mind and body experience a unique state of restful alertness. As the mind becomes more silent, the body becomes deeply relaxed. At the most settled state of awareness, the mind transcends all mental activity to experience the simplest form of awareness, Transcendental Consciousness. Hundreds of scientific studies have shown that experiencing this state correlates with greater creativity, improved learning, higher IQ, better grades, higher moral reasoning, increased brain wave coherence and improved neurological functioning of the body.

Practicing TM helps develops increased energy, creativity and intelligence. This in turn helps awaken the unlimited potential of the meditator's mind and body. The result is that those who practice TM enjoy greater health, happiness and success in all aspects of life.

How to meditate

Anyone can learn how to meditate. No special lessons, books or equipment are required. People of all ages, cultures and educational backgrounds can practice TM.

TM is an easy and enjoyable experience that takes only 20 minutes twice a day. You can do it alone or with others in a group. Pick a time and place where you will not be disturbed. Then just sit comfortably with your eyes closed. No effort, no concentration, no special skills nor change of lifestyle are required. Thoughts will enter and leave your mind as you meditate. Attend to them or not as you choose.

People can benefit from TM even if they don't believe it will work. Try meditating regularly for 20 minutes twice a day and you will start to see results in the form of improvements in your life.

Back in the 1960's when TM first became popular in the United States, practitioners were known to chant "OM" or another single syllable sound while they meditated. This is no longer considered necessary, though it can be done if desired. Most people now meditate silently.

The benefits of TM

Practitioners of transcendental meditation start noticing positive changes in their lives within a few days or weeks after they start meditating. These benefits include clearer thinking, improved memory, enhanced creativity and sharper intellect. These changes can enable people to achieve more in their work by becoming more creative and effective without having to work harder. Other people have said they feel healthier, more rested and relaxed, and have increased immunity to disease, reduction of aging effects and greater energy and vitality after starting to meditate.

TM can even help in relationships with others. It can help you enjoy closer friendships, become calmer and more self-confident and feel less anxious and stressed out. By radiating this increased harmony and lack of stress to the outside world, TM may even contribute to world peace.

The Maharishi teaches that by practicing Transcendental Meditation regularly, you can choose what you want to be and begin to achieve that goal. Why not try practicing TM now and see how your life improves?

Does Depression Treatment Make Sense?

Treating depression does it make sense? If you ever suffered from depression as a patient or had to deal with depression as someone close to a patient of this mental illness, you undoubtedly will have had doubts like this in his mind or have had arguments on this issue.

It seems that many suffer from depression, especially if they have been affected by this disease recently, have serious doubts about the effectiveness of the medication for depression. In many cases, can recall stories of patients who were not successful in the treatment of depression through a method of treating depression or another. There are two misconceptions about depression treatment and modern medicine in general that can lead to this reaction: 1) If depression treatment xyz not help this patient can not help me either! Not all treatment of depression is for everyone.

In fact, the most advances our understanding of human genetics and biomedicine in general and medication for depression in particular, receives the most obvious is that every patient is different, but fortunately there are many commonalities between large cohort of Patients (Over time, medical advances will lead to a more personalized depression medication, but not quite there yet). Each treatment of depression has potential side effects and displays a wide range of effectiveness for a certain group of patients. Both effects are, firstly, it depends on the dose of depression medication is applied, moreover, are a function of patients different biochemical and genetic markers.

That some patients experience side effects with depression medication, or not healed from a depression treatment does not allow the conclusion that the treatment of depression in question will not work perfectly well for other patients. Even if a patient is experiencing negative side effects of depression or medication for treatment of depression does not seem to alleviate their condition, even after some time, there is no need to despair. In our age range of options for treating depression is large and growing. The probability of getting the treatment of depression is needed is very high indeed. 2) OK, I will take my pills for a couple of weeks and then will ido forever! Today we expect anything, including our mind and body, can be fixed quickly. There seems to be not only time to really get to the roots of a problem. Just take a couple of pills, eat better and things are fine in an instant. If not, it must be because the treatment does not work. Well, depression treatment does not work well. The struggle with depression is a long but often with success.

The depression medication usually takes a couple of weeks before its positive effect kicks in full - So does the effect of other treatments for depression or supports treatment, whether electrotherapy, herbs, or a change in style life. Worse still, at first the treatment of depression things may seem to worsen before improving. This is a natural and well-known effect of treatment of depression, however, has led many patients to quit treatment feeling that depression treatment does not help at all. Be careful patient who is going to have to wait to see the effects of its treatment of depression and in any case stop taking the medication or depression stop other activities to treat depression because you can not see a positive effect short term. The probability of treatment for depression in general does not work in a particular case is actually very thin.

However, for the reasons stated above, certain treatments for depression may not work yet, not at all or only with many side effects for a particular patient. If a patient is in the hands of a good medical professional who can be sure that the right treatment for depression particular case will be identified - A treatment of depression that relieve pain and eventually allow the patient depressed to regain his life.

What is meditation & how to meditate

Meditation is a group of mental training techniques .You can use meditation to improve mental health and capacities, and also to help improve the physical health. Some of these techniques are very simple, so you can learn them from a book or an article; others require guidance by a qualified meditation teacher.

WHAT IS MEDITATION

Most techniques called meditation include these components:

1. You sit or lie in a relaxed position.
2. You breathe regularly. You breathe in deep enough to get enough oxygen. When you breathe out, you relax your muscles so that your lungs are well emptied, but without straining.
3. You stop thinking about everyday problems and matters.
4. You concentrate your thoughts upon some sound, some word you repeat, some image, some abstract concept or some feeling. Your whole attention should be pointed at the object you have chosen to concentrate upon.
5. If some foreign thoughts creep in, you just stop this foreign thought, and go back to the object of meditation.

The different meditation techniques differ according to the degree of concentration, and how foreign thoughts are handled. By some techniques, the objective is to concentrate so intensely that no foreign thoughts occur at all.

In other techniques, the concentration is more relaxed so that foreign thoughts easily pop up. When these foreign thoughts are discovered, one stops these and goes back to the pure meditation in a relaxed manner. Thoughts coming up, will often be about things you have forgotten or suppressed, and allow you to rediscover hidden memory material. This rediscovery will have a psychotherapeutic effect.

THE EFFECTS OF MEDITATION

Meditation has the following effects:

1. Meditation will give you rest and recreation.
2. You learn to relax.
3. You learn to concentrate better on problem solving.
4. Meditation often has a good effect upon the blood pressure.
5. Meditation has beneficial effects upon inner body processes, like circulation, respiration and digestion.
6. Regular meditation will have a psychotherapeutically effect.
7. Regular meditation will facilitate the immune system.
8. Meditation is usually pleacent.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HYPNOSIS AND MEDITATION

Hypnosis may have some of the same relaxing and psychotherapeutic effects as meditation. However, when you meditate you are in control yourself; by hypnosis you let some other person or some mechanical device control you. Also hypnosis will not have a training effect upon the ability to concentrate.

A SIMPLE FORM OF MEDITATION

Here is a simple form of meditation:

1. Sit in a good chair in a comfortable position.
2. Relax all your muscles as well as you can.
3. Stop thinking about anything, or at least try not to think about anything.
4. Breath out, relaxing all the muscles in your breathing apparatus.
5. Repeat the following in 10 - 20 minutes:

-- Breath in so deep that you feel you get enough oxygen.
-- Breath out, relaxing your chest and diaphragm completely.
-- Every time you breathe out, think the word "one" or another simple word inside yourself. You should think the word in a prolonged manner, and so that you hear it inside you, but you should try to avoid using your mouth or voice.

6. If foreign thoughts come in, just stop these thoughts in a relaxed manner, and keep on concentrating upon the breathing and the word you repeat.

As you proceed through this meditation, you should feel steadily more relaxed in your mind and body, feel that you breathe steadily more effectively, and that the blood circulation throughout your body gets more efficient. You may also feel an increasing mental pleasure throughout the meditation.

THE EFFECTS OF MEDITATION UPON DISEASES

As any kind of training, meditation may be exaggerated so that you get tired and worn out. Therefore you should not meditate so long or so concentrated that you feel tired or mentally emptied.

Meditation may sometimes give problems for people suffering from mental diseases, epilepsy, serious heart problems or neurological diseases. On the other hand, meditation may be of help in the treatment of these and other conditions.

People suffering from such conditions should check out what effects the different kinds of meditation have on their own kind of health problems, before beginning to practise meditation, and be cautious if they choose to begin to meditate. It may be wise to learn meditation from an experienced teacher, psychologist or health worker that use meditation as a treatment module for the actual disease.

Quit Smoking By Hypnosis

Many people, when they are questioned, “what is hypnosis?” will quickly reply that it is a type of magic. Some people will say that, hypnosis is making people go to sleep and make them to do as they were told. However, as we will discuss in this article, all these assumptions were wrong. People are not made to sleep. They are in fact pushed to state of hyper-attentiveness. The hypnotized person would not do what he was told; instead he would do whatever he thinks right at that time. In other words, he will be he will be at the height of reason.

A scientific explanation of hypnosis might lean towards describing as a trance like state. This state of being will be completely relaxed and the hypnotized person will have improved imagination and maximum suggestibility. This trance state is not at all sleep because the individual is very alert subconsciously.

Hypnosis works wonders in everybody’s life if used properly. Hypnosis has helped people to stay slim, quit smoking, pain relief or to improve the mental health and physical health and what not.

The first step
In a large part, the reason for the failing to quit smoking is the lack of ability to train and channel our minds. Hypnosis can do this. Hypnosis can harness the unutilized power of the mind and relieve you from all kinds of miseries. It helps you to create a clear picture of exactly what you want; i.e. to quit smoking. This picture will be more and more clear with every hypnotic session. In hypnosis, the subconscious mind is stimulated to find out the need and want of the person without any confusion.

The second step
After creating a clearer picture of what you want, hypnosis in the next stage sets up a structure and the person is made to believe that it is real. Then the person’s emotions about the structure will be asked. The person will reply unequivocally what he doesn’t like about the structure created. This important shift in focus brings about dramatic results.

Other interesting hypnosis facts
Hypnosis uses a technology that creates sound. This sounds easily and quickly produces or induces waves in the brain. These waves will carry the learning of the mind and store them in the root of the brain so that the learning is stay put. These techniques even have their roots in ancient cultures. Just like in ancient culture, the students were asked to recite prayers very early in the day after waking up and very late at night just before sleeping. During these periods the brainwaves occur naturally which take the learning to the root of the brain, so that they never forget what they have learned.

Hypnosis also uses a technique called sublingual messaging by which it talks directly to the subconscious mind. This way hypnosis can bring about behavioral changes and improve the brainpower with ease, as the want of the person will be understood crystal clear. The effectiveness of the hypnosis differs greatly depending on the expertise of the psychiatrists and willingness of the patient.

Easy Ways To Quit Smoking

The problem with most smokers who want to recover quickly is the nicotine in damage, and I fear that there are very few easy ways to quit. An easy way to stop smoking but there are not as was done in an hour as they say and it takes great determination and courage to succeed.

The truth is that today we need quick solutions to critical problems. Where can I find easy ways to stop smoking? The most common response would be via the Internet. High levels of stress are one of the biggest problems when trying to use simple ways to stop smoking and we must admit that our lives are usually have a crazy pace. This is why we can not say that one easy way to stop smoking even though theoretically there really is no alternative.

The cold turkey method is very controversial because some people have cured themselves using this technique, while many others did not find any relief. I believe that the cold turkey is an easy way to stop smoking even though it has not yet confirmed to be highly effective. This is the theoretical easy way to quit smoking and is valid for those who smoke as twenty cigarettes a day. It also applies to someone who is highly motivated by any external factor extreme. Once you cree that his life at risk, you take the cold turkey method as an easy way to stop smoking. We therefore such simple ways to stop smoking do the job but their effectiveness depends on lots of individual independent factors that vary from case to case.

It's normal to learn from the outset that the easiest way to quit smoking requires sacrifice and determination. If you have a powerful motivating factor as a disease caused by snuff then your chances of success increase significantly. If you opt for a so-called easy ways to quit as acupuncture or over the counter treatments that reduce the amount of withdrawal symptoms.

If you have not yet decided which of the easy ways to quit smoking might try to surf the Web is a good idea and I'd recommend http://quitsmoking3.blogspot.com learn some tips for a healthier lifestyle . Note, however, that nothing works and wonders that simple ways to stop smoking also depends on you.

Understanding How Laser Hair Removal Works

The quintessential quick hair removal solution is beyond doubt laser hair removal today. In a day and age that is being punctuated with a phenomenal growth of personal beauty treatments, quick hair removal solutions have come of age. A clinically precise technology with diverse applicability available at a price that wont blow a hole in your pocket will be a rocketing success. laser hair removal surely is showing signs of being just that.

The fundamental question is of course as a quick hair removal solution how exactly does laser hair removal work its magic? A root analysis is important even for the least discerning seeker of hair removal solutions. Here is the inside dope on this marvelous technology: Human hair grows from under the base of the skin where the bulb of the hair is situated. To permanently inhibit this growth, the bulb needs to be destabilized, some thing that permanent hair removal solutions such as laser hair removal do. Hair growth occurs in phases, and the ‘active phase’ of growth is when the bulb destabilization yields long term results, and therefore laser hair removal is commonly done as a series of treatments.

Quick hair removal by hair lasers is simply an outcome of the structural difference of a laser beam as compared to a normal light beam. Since the laser beam is a high energy beam, it causes thermal agitation of whatever particles lie in its path, more specifically in our case, the hair follicle. Skin pigment called melanin present in the hair follicle responds to the laser energy and breaks down due to the increase in thermal energy. This break down prevents the growth of hair for a considerable duration of time if not permanently. Depending on the type of skin, area of hair removal required and the nature of the hair itself, different hair lasers varying by strength and specificity of application can be used as a quick hair removal solution.

In a nutshell, this is how laser hair removal works under your skin literally so that you may go about your life, feeling at the top of your personal confidence and pride!

Hair Loss Remedy

Diet, Nutrition, and Hair Loss

One key factor in maintaining a growing protein on a part of one’s biological body is obvious: one must maintain a healthy diet. Although certain factors have been definitely identified as contributors to hair loss, we must keep in mind that hair is part of the complete biological system of the human body. Being a system, dysfunctions in one part of the system can contribute to dysfunctions in other parts; chain reactions occur when one part of the body malfunctions, causing other parts within the system to falter. To maintain optimum health, it is best to maintain a healthy diet and regular exercise regimen.

Defining exactly what a healthy diet is when it comes to preventing hair loss can be a little more complex. Principally, the main vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that one must ingest in some form to maintain healthy hair are vitamin A, all B vitamins-particularly vitamins B-6 and B-12, folic acid, biotin, vitamin C, vitamin E, copper, iron, zinc, iodine, protein of course, silica, essential fatty acids (EFA’s, formerly known as vitamin F) and last but not least one must consume water. There are also certain foods that may cause dysfunctions that will contribute to hair loss.

The best way to maintain a healthy vitamin and mineral intake is a good diet. It is not necessary or advisable to go out and buy a bunch of over-the-counter vitamin supplements in order to achieve your suggested nutritional levels. Many over-the-counter vitamins are chemically processed and are not completely absorbed into the system. It is also easy to overdose oneself with over the counter vitamins particularly when taking supplements of fat-soluble vitamins and minerals, causing toxicity and adverse reactions. The likelihood of doing this is far less with food; therefore it is always best to obtain the bulk of your vitamin and mineral requirements from whole foods.

Vitamin A is a key component to developing healthy cells and tissues in the body, including hair. Additionally it works with silica and zinc to prevent drying and clogging of the sebaceous glands, the glands vital to producing sebum, which is an important lubricant for the hair follicle. Vitamin A deficiencies commonly cause thickening of the scalp, dry hair, and dandruff. Air pollution, smoking, extremely bright light, certain cholesterol-lowering drugs, laxatives, and aspirin are some known vitamin A inhibitors. Liver, fish oil, eggs, fortified milk, and red, yellow, and orange vegetables are good sources for vitamin A, as are some dark green leafy vegetables like spinach. Be particularly careful if you take vitamin A supplements, as vitamin A is fat-soluble, allowing the body to store it and making it easy for the body to overdose on vitamin A. Vitamin A overdoses can cause excessively dry skin and inflamed hair follicles, and in some cases ironically can cause hair loss. If you choose to take supplements of this vitamin, consult with a specialist first. As mentioned above, the likelihood of overdosing by achieving your vitamin A intake by food sources is almost nil, so it is best to attempt to achieve this at all costs.

B-vitamins work interdependently and therefore all levels of B vitamins need to be sufficient in order to maintain proper health. Vitamins B-6, folic acid, biotin, and vitamin B-12 are all key components in maintaining healthy hemoglobin levels in the blood, which is the iron-containing portion of red-blood cells. Hemoglobin’s primary function is to carry oxygen from the lungs to the tissues of the body, so if these vitamins were deficient in one’s body, then hair and skin would indeed suffer. Fortunately some of the tastiest foods contain these vitamins. Vitamin B-6 is found in protein rich foods, which is excellent because the body needs a sufficient amount of protein to maintain hair growth as well. Liver, chicken, fish, pork, kidney, and soybeans are good sources of B-6 and are relatively low in fat when they are not fried. Folic acid is found in whole grains, cereals, nuts, green leafy vegetables, orange juice, brewer’s yeast, wheat germ, and liver again. Meat, fish, poultry, eggs, and other dairy products meanwhile provide healthy amounts of B-12. Biotin deficiencies are rare unless there is a severe case of malnutrition or a serious intestinal disorder, since a healthy gut produces biotin through good bacteria found there.

Note: if you have a known intestinal disorder and are plagued by hair loss, ask your doctor about biotin deficiencies and possible solutions. Vitamin C is responsible for the development of healthy collagen, which is necessary to hold body tissues together. A vitamin C deficiency can cause split ends and hair breakage, yet this is easily reversible with an increase to normal vitamin C levels. Vitamin C can be found in foods such as fresh peppers, citrus fruits, melons berries, potatoes, tomatoes, and dark green leafy vegetables.

Vitamin E is necessary to provide good blood circulation to the scalp by increasing the uptake of oxygen. Vitamin E is derived from foods such as green leafy vegetables, nuts, grains, vegetable oils, and most ready-to-eat cereals, which are fortified with vitamin E. Vitamin E deficiencies are rare in people in North America and Europe. In the rare cases of vitamin E deficiency, usually caused by the inability to absorb oils and fats, dietary supplements are available.

Copper is a trace mineral that is also necessary in the production of hemoglobin. Hemoglobin as mentioned earlier is vital to the process of carrying oxygen to tissues such as the hair, and obviously hair is alive cannot grow without proper oxygen, yet it does not breathe as other components of our body do, because the oxygen must get to the shaft of the hair. Good sources of copper are liver again, seafood, nuts, and seeds. Another key mineral vital in the production of hemoglobin is iron. Iron is found in two forms, heme and non-heme; heme iron is much easier to absorb into the system. This is where the problem lies. Of course most people know that red meat is a good source of iron, however red meat is non-heme iron and is difficult for the body to absorb, as are many iron supplements. Good heme iron sources are green leafy vegetables, kidney beans, and bran. Additionally, one can increase the absorption of non-heme iron into the body by consuming non-heme food sources and vitamin C sources in the same meal.

Zinc is another vital component to healthy hair, being that it is responsible for cell production, tissue growth and repair, and the maintenance of the oil-secreting glands of the scalp. It also plays a large role in protein synthesis and collagen formation. For this reason, zinc is important for both hair maintenance and dandruff prevention. Most Americans are deficient in zinc. Most foods of animal origin, particularly seafood, contain good amounts of zinc; oysters are particularly rich in zinc. Zinc is also found in eggs and milk, although in much smaller amounts. Zinc from sources such as nuts, legumes, and natural grains is of a different type than those found in animal sources and is not easily used by the body, although oats are a good source of zinc that is readily used by the body. Protein is found in most of the aforementioned animal source foods, particularly meats, fish, milk, cheese, eggs and yogurt. There is no need for a person eating the average Western diet to eat additional protein. Too much protein, even though hair is made of protein, will not improve hair growth and may cause other health problems.

A challenge for vegans is to maintain healthy levels of protein, being that complete proteins containing all nine essential amino acids necessary are found mostly in animal sources. Legumes, seeds, nuts, grains and vegetables do not contain the same form of protein necessary for a healthy body. There is only one common non-meat source for complete protein, and that is the soybean. Fortunately, soybeans have been made into tofu and texturized vegetable protein (TVP) so that they can be made into various dishes. Additionally, one may eat from a wide variety of vegetable sources in order to obtain all the essential amino acids.

Iodine is vital to the growth of hair. Sheep farmers long ago discovered that vegetation void of iodine due to iodine-depleted soil will adversely affect the growth of wool in sheep. Likewise, our hair needs iodine to grow. Iodine is synthetically added to table salt, however in this form it is not assimilated well into the body and can therefore cause iodine overload. An excess of iodine in the body can adversely affect the thyroid. It is best to use non-iodized salt and retrieve your iodine from natural food sources. These include seaweed, salmon, seafood, lima beans, molasses, eggs, potatoes with the skin on, watercress and garlic.

One of the most difficult nutrients vital to hair growth to get in one’s diet is the trace mineral silica. Silicon is a form of silicon and is the second most abundant element in the earth’s crust, second only to oxygen. The Earth provides everything we need for health, and with silicon being so abundant, it would seem that there would never be a problem with silica deficiency. Unfortunately, trace minerals are rare in Western diets because our food is processed and our soil depleted by chemical treatments so often that trace minerals are lost. Silica is vital to the strength of hair, and although it will not necessarily stop hair from falling out from the follicle, it will stop hair breakage. It works by stimulating the cell metabolism and formation, which slows the aging process. Foods that are rich in silica are rice, oats, lettuce, parsnips, asparagus, onion, strawberry, cabbage, cucumber, leek, sunflower seeds, celery, rhubarb, cauliflower, and swiss chard. Note that many of these foods, particularly rice, are a large part of Asian diets and Asians tend to have the strongest and healthiest hair. Be sure to seek out all the above foods from sources that grow food organically, as this is vital to obtaining the trace minerals that are usually not present in North American soil and therefore not in American foods. Additionally these foods should be eaten uncooked, or in the case of rice-unwashed, as trace minerals are easily cooked and washed away.

Pregnancy Sex - It's A Wonderful Thing!

Mums to be can often get worried about having sex while pregnant; well there is no medical evidence that having sexual intercourse whilst pregnant does any damage at all.

There are a few cases where your GP may advise you about not having intercourse: - If you are Prone to miscarriages your GP may advise avoiding intercourse for the first three months or at the times when you would have been having your period when your hormones would be at their lowest.

You may be advised to avoid intercourse in the later stages of pregnancy if you have a history of premature labour - Your GP may advise you to avoid intercourse if you have a low lying placenta There is no need to worry about your baby being harmed by the penetration of the penis as it is well protected. This protection comes from the Muscular wall of the uterus, from the mucus plug that seals the neck of the uterus, and from the bag of waters. Sexual intercourse will not start labour if the body is not ready. However, if your baby is overdue, arousal of the nipple and intercourse could help in starting labour.

The prostaglandins in semen soften the cervix, and hormones released by nipple stimulation encourage the uterus to contract. Sexual desires during pregnancy differ from person to person. Some women may just feel too ill or tired for sex, or a man may worry about harming the unborn child. Some women may just not feel sexually attractive whilst pregnant. In these cases it is best to talk as a couple to reassure each other of the others feelings. On the other hand many couples feel that pregnancy can do wonders for the sex life.

Many men may be aroused by the fuller breasts and rounder hips of a pregnant partner. Some women feel great about not having to worry about contraceptives and periods. Well beyond all of that is the actual partaking in sexual intercourse where some people often worry. Of course as the pregnancy develops, the missionary position becomes impossible, which on a plus side forces into exploring other ways to make love.
A few ideas are: - Woman on top – this not only gives the man a great view, but also lets the woman stay in control of position and penetration. - Rear entry positions – take time to find a position that is comfortable for you these rear entry positions also allow the man more penetration - Spoons – this is where both partners lye on their side and the man penetrates from behind, this gives shallower penetration which is more comfortable for some ladies during the later stages of pregnancy

If You're a Woman Over 25, You Should Eat These Foods To Prevent Diseases

Do you keep your health care plan in the fridge? It’s not a bad idea actually because if you pick your foods the right way, you can pack heart disease, colon cancer, osteoporosis, and diabetes prevention all in a day’s worth of groceries.

Heart Disease

It kills nearly 500,000 women a year. The American Heart Association warns that heart disease, including stroke, claims more women’s lives than the next six causes of death combined. Yet few women realize their risks for heart disease.

Hip 30-something singer Toni Braxton thought her chests pains were just from parenting stress before she discovered that she had heart disease. While the singer is OK now, she’s getting the word out about heart disease as the spokeswoman for the American Heart Association’s “Go Red For Women” campaign.

If you want to be heart smart, you need to be food wise. For example, according to the Tufts University Health & Nutrition Letter, a diet loaded whole grains may lower your risk of developing heart disease.

Other clinical research from the Archives of Internal Medicines found a link between increased dietary fiber and reduced blood pressure. In short, more fiber my reduce hypertension and thus lower the blood pressure.

Where to get fiber and whole grains:

Apples, grapes, celery, whole grain bread and cereal (make sure that sugar is not a main ingredient), whole-wheat pasta, popcorn, barley, oats and oatmeal, rye, corn, brown rice, bulgur or cracked wheat, and wheat germ

Colon Cancer

The fiber gleaned from a whole oat rich diet also reduces the risks for developing colon cancer. Similarly in animal studies, selenium has shown anti-cancer benefits. Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health noted that calcium limits the development of rectal lesions, which could become cancerous.

Where to get calcium and selenium:

Broccoli, bran, brown rice, cottage cheese, garlic, onion, Brazil nuts, molasses, eggs, yogurt, celery, tahini, kidney beans

Osteoporosis

Are you going scream if someone else tells you to drink your milk to make strong bones? While calcium has hoarded the spotlight for osteoporosis prevention, Dr. Alan R Gaby points out in the Townsend Letter for Doctors & Patients, that magnesium, manganese, and zinc are just as important in the fight against osteoporosis.

Where to get them:

Magnesium: Almonds, bran, oat, hazel nuts, pecans, lentils, sunflower seeds.

Manganese: Avocado, walnuts, pineapple, buckwheat, parsley, spinach

Zinc: Cheese, raw cashews, egg white, sunflower seeds, macadamia nuts, wheat germ

Diabetes

Christine Gerbstadt, M.D., R.D., spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association suggests limiting your risks for diabetes by consuming orange and leafy green veggies. Adding on a high quality fiber rich cereal can also limit your risk for diabetes.

Where to get orange and leafy green veggies:

Spinach, yams, papayas, peppers, rich green varieties of lettuce, lemons, parsley, cilantro.

Here’s a final reason to stash your health care plan in the fridge. A finding presented at the Annual Scientific Session of the American College of Cardiology that analyzed the records from 2,857 heart attack survivors treated at Michigan hospitals found that men had a better chance of surviving after treatment than women.

One reason for this could be that the women receive less one-on-one sessions with the doctors or nurses before going home. The lesson here is to put health in your own hands before you even need to use your health insurance.

Increase your chances of beating heart disease, colon cancer, diabetes, and osteoporosis now. It’s as easy as buying apples, beets, and carrots. I’ll see you in the produce section.

Natural Skin Care Products

The market in beauty products has increased significantly in the last 25 years but in the last 10 years there has been an increasing interest in the ingredients contained within the lotions, creams and potions we apply so liberally to our skin - the largest organ of our human bodies.

Many main stream manufacturers still include a range of not so natural ingredients in their products:

- waste products from the petrochemical industry
- lead and other heavy metals
- products extracted from animal carcasses

Many of these ingredients are given scientific sounding names. While the cynic may say this is a deliberate attempt to confuse the consumer, a more charitable view is that this is done in pursuit of accurate labeling.

As an effect of the heightened awareness of health matters and the confusion concern ingredients and labeling, a new sector of this profitable market has appeared. The necessity for natural skin care and cosmetics.

But just how natural is natural?

Many consumers need natural ingredients but are not prepared to accept the essential compromise in product performance. A classic example is with the ingredient Sodium Lauryl Sulphate. This is a synthetic detergent derived from coconut oil and it appears in a wide range of shampoos, bath products, toothpastes and liquid soaps. It is what gives these products the luxurious bubbles and lather to which we have all become accustomed. A number of reports have suggested that this ingredient is harmful and many consumers now seek products containing an alternative.

Manufacturers then developed Sodium Laureth Sulphate, which is considered less irritating than Sodium Lauryl Sulphate. When this was condemned, Ammonium Laureth Sulphate and Ammonium Lauryl Sulphate were substituted. Once again these are synthetic detergents developed from coconut oil and they are still considered to be an irritant. Some reports have further suggested they may be carcinogenic.

Unless consumers have knowledge of biochemistry it is almost impossible to discern what ingredients are natural and what are not. The SLS saga is but one example of this confusion.

It is ironic that a number of "natural" manufacturers aggressively promote their products by denigrating the products of competing companies - despite the fact that the ingredients they contain are essentially the same.

Consumers need to make themselves aware of the real meanings behind the mysterious names on their cosmetic bottles and jars and educate themselves about the various aliases they are likely to encounter.

Depending on the reasons for wanting to buy natural products, some ingredients may be more acceptable than others. Take Lanolin for example. Lanolin is extracted from the fleece of sheep. It has been shown to contain a large number of chemicals used to kill parasites that may live on the sheep. Many eczema sufferers find that treatment with lanolin-based products - despite the chemicals - helps to reduce symptoms. The advantages of Lanolin treatment outweigh the disadvantage of potential contaminants. This is a value judgment that persons will need to make.

Of course, one of the best ways to ensure that your products are natural is to make them yourself. There are a growing number of companies providing organic based ingredients to facilitate home manufacture of products. Natural cosmetics are surprisingly easy to make in the home using nothing more than regular kitchen equipment. This may be an alternative worth checking-out.

Cellulite Treatment Guide

When you go to the spa or salon there are chances that you have been through treatments that aim to get rid of cellulite. Probably thinking about how nice would be able to do this, but wonder if things are going quite work out that way.

Almost 15 years ago a massage machine was invented in France to help get rid of cellulite. This was first used on horses, but soon enough it was observed that could also work to soften the skin of human beings.

This machine is known as the Endermologie and works easily. It gently vacuums the skin, massages and is aimed at reducing excess fat. In turn, this excess fluid is carried by the lymphatic system and blood.

Although this may seem complicated treatment only takes about 45 minutes to complete. During treatment the patient is placed in an organ storage class, and starts the vacuum. In many cases, this may hurt at first because of the suction is too powerful. If this happens, the force can be adjusted.

The results of this treatment are effective, but unfortunately its a little can cost money. If you're really looking for a way to get rid of cellulite, however, this may be the best way to go.

Another option you may consider is the body wrap-up. This is offered by salons and can be very effective in reducing cellulite. Many people have found that a body wrap-up can reduce cellulite, while also hardening of the skin. Talk about the best of both worlds.

The process of getting a body wrap-up treatment is not difficult. You will have your clothes off, and then will be covered in a treatment fund that is offered by your living room. Each is different in order to request in advance. From here, your body is more or less wrapped like a mummy.

For most body wraps you will be in the same position for an hour or so. When treatment is complete bandages are removed, and you can shower and head outdoors.

There are some ways to get rid of cellulite. If you are interested in this that we want to see the two options mentioned above. You may be surprised at how well this can work for you.

Tips for Natural Skin Care

Our skin is the reflection of our health and vitality, physical, mental and emotional wellness. A radiant and glowing skin indicates good health, positive attitude and vibrates self-confidence. On the other hand, a dull and blemished skin shows an unhealthy body, stressful lifestyle and carelessness towards one’s own personality.

Who doesn’t want to look good, and good looks start with good skin. You may think it’s not such a big issue; there are several products in the market to make the skin beautiful and glowing in a jiffy. But as you use them, you must also be realizing that it is not so. These cosmetic products produce temporary effects on skin, have lots of side effects, and are very costly and not suited to all skin types. Then, what’s the way out? Here’s where we come to our topic of discussion, to care for the skin in a natural way that is natural skin care.

Natural skin care is not just about using skin products produced without chemicals; it’s an ongoing process of a result of a healthy life-style, right diet and off-course right skin products to be applied directly.

First of all, natural way of caring for skin starts with some life-style changes we need to take care of. Getting enough sleep: ‘Beauty sleep’ is not just a saying; its meaning goes far beyond that. As the rest of the body, for healthy skin, sleeping adequately is a must. At least 7 – 8 hours of sleep (hours vary for person to person), ensures a relaxed mind and body, normal blood flow, takes care of all wear and tear during the day, energizes you and brings the glow back in the morning. Dark circles around the eyes, blotchy skin, and lifeless appearance of face are all side effects of not getting enough sleep. So switch off that TV, log-off your laptop, and get from the party on time to catch a good night’s sleep. Get Moving: Now that you’ve got enough sleep, its time for some exercises as well. Be active, walk, jog, exercise, hit the gym, do stretches during office hours too, take the stairs, do anything to keep moving. Inactivity affects the skin by promoting bloating and puffiness, cellulite and loss of muscle tone. Exercise also helps us to relax and de-stress, both necessary for a healthy skin.

Drink lots of water: Water helps to detoxify the body’s system, bathes the cells, eliminates waste products, help in digestion, purify blood and the list goes on and on. The point is to have at least 2 liters of water a day, avoid carbonated and sweetened drinks and have fresh juices and soups as additional source of fluids.

For a shiny and smooth skin, drinking honey mixed in warm water in the morning helps a lot. Secondly, natural way of caring for skin by eating right. Let’s discuss some basic points: Have lots of fiber: Eating food that is rich in fiber help a good digestion and constipation is totally taken care of. This eliminates the root of many skin problems like acne, psoriasis, spotty skin etc. we must have lots of fruits, fresh veggies, whole grains, and salad. The idea is to cut on processed food and fast food because these contain almost no fiber. Eating things in their natural form is the mantra to get the most benefit out of it.

Cut on excess sugar: The more we take sugar, the more sugar enters our bloodstream. Over some time, this results in a process where the glucose molecules damages protein molecule by sticking to it. This causes damage in collagen, cartilage and ligament, thus forming wrinkles. So, the next time, you are adding the second spoon of sugar to your tea/ coffee or going to bite on your favorite sweet…think again!!

Get some good fats: These are the fats needed to build cells, membrane, hormones etc. Lack of the good fat can lead to eczema, acne and dry skin. The sources to get these fats are cold-water fish, walnut oil, flaxseed oil, nuts; also you can try fish oil supplements.

Apart from these basic dietary requirements, we need to have a balanced diet containing Vitamins, Minerals, Proteins, Fats, all essential ingredients which comprises an adequate diet. This is absolutely vital for a healthy body and mind along with a smooth, glowing skin.

Last but not the least, we come to the most interesting part of out discussion. Natural skin care products, to be applied regularly for best results. According to the classic definition of natural skin care products, these are products found and used in their natural or raw form without any chemicals and manufactured in such a way so as to preserve the integrity of the ingredient.

There are many products, which can be bought from the market, manufactured by reputed companies. But best is to spend a little time and prepare some easy recipes for taking care of common skin problems and daily cleansing and toning.

Skin Care Tips:

· Stop using soap on your face (if possible, on body also). Use gram flour and milk to make a paste. Apply it gently and rub a little, then wash off with water. Believe me, it’s much better that any soap!!

· Massage body with mustard oil 10 minutes before bath, and then take a warm bath. Your skin will be moisturized and smooth.

· Massage your body with milk. Milk moisturizes your skin naturally. · For daily cleansing, mix sandal wood powder with rose water and add 4-5 drops of milk in it, then apply on face and body. After 10 minutes, take a warm bath.

· Warm honey and mix with lemon juice, then apply on face. Let it dry, and then wash off with warm water. It refreshes and cleanses your skin.

· For preparing natural bleach, mix lemon juice in milk. Then massage it on your face and body. It bleaches you skin naturally.

· To remove sun-tan, mix cucumber juice with tomato juice, rub on skin, wash off with cold water.

· Mix milk cream with flour, apply that paste on to your skin, then wash off to get a smooth skin.

These are the basic ways of caring for skin naturally. The glow and radiance that comes with the natural care practice is for all to see and is everlasting. Just remember: Beauty is not skin deep…still it starts with the skin!

What is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation surgery enhances the shape and size of a woman's breasts, using breast implants. Women choose to have breast augmentation surgery to enhance the contours of their body, to correct loss of breast volume following pregnancy, to make their breasts symmetrical, and for other reasons. With breast augmentation surgery, a woman's bust line can be increased by one or more cup sizes.

At The Plastic Surgery Center of Nashville in Tennessee, we perform breast augmentation surgery with saline breast implants, though silicone breast implants are available to women participating in certain FDA-approved studies.

Breast Augmentation Surgery

At our cosmetic surgery practice in Nashville, Tennessee, breast augmentation surgery is performed with general anesthesia. The breast augmentation surgeon will make the surgical incision along the crease on the underside of the breast or around the areola. The breast augmentation surgeon works through the incision, creating a pocket behind the breast tissue or under the chest muscle to accommodate the breast implant.

Breast augmentation surgery will require an hour to two hours to complete. The incisions will be closed using stitches, though bandages, tape, and gauze may be applied for support and to assist with healing.

After Breast Augmentation Surgery

At The Plastic Surgery Center of Nashville in Tennessee, the breast augmentation surgeon and our staff will monitor your progress after surgery. In order to remove excess fluid, drainage tubes may be inserted for several days. You may feel tired and sore for a few days after breast augmentation surgery, but you should be mobile in one to two days. Gauze and surgical dressing will be removed within a few days, at which time you may change to a soft cup bra. Any sutures that do not dissolve on their own will be removed in seven to 10 days. During the first two weeks, your nipples may experience a burning sensation. This will subside as post-surgical bruising begins to fade. Swelling after breast augmentation surgery may persist for three to five weeks with implants placed under the breast gland. In breast augmentation where the implants are placed under the muscle, swelling may persist significantly longer, approximately three to five months.

Recovery

Most patients return to work a few days after breast augmentation surgery, depending on the amount of activity their job requires. During the first two to three weeks, your breasts will be very sensitive to direct stimulation. If your breasts are no longer sore after three to four weeks, breast contact should be fine. No heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling with the upper body is recommended for at least two weeks after breast augmentation surgery. We discourage any activity that causes an increase in your heart rate or blood pressure for the first two weeks. After breast augmentation surgery, the surgical scars will appear pink and firm for six weeks. The surgical scars may appear to widen or remain the same size for several months. They will eventually fade, though they will not disappear completely. If you should experience any serious complications during your recovery period, contact our Nashville, Tennessee office to speak with a breast augmentation surgeon.

Potential Risks

At our cosmetic surgery office in Nashville, Tennessee, we perform breast augmentation surgery often, and usually achieve excellent results. Yet, as with other types of surgery, there are a number of potential risks.

One of the more common complications following breast augmentation surgery is called capsular contracture, which occurs when the capsule or scar around a breast implant tightens, causing a woman's breast to feel abnormally hard. The condition is treatable. Other complications after breast augmentation surgery that may require a second operation include excessive bleeding or infection. Oversensitive, undersensitive, or numb nipples are other infrequent but possible complications.

There is a chance that a breast implant will break. If a saline breast implant leaks or breaks, the implant will drain completely within a few hours and your body will absorb the salt water harmlessly. If a silicone gel-filled implant breaks, you may not detect the leak if the scar tissue around the breast implant remains intact. If the scar tissue does break or tear, however, the silicone gel may migrate into the surrounding tissue. If a saline or silicone implant breaks, you will require a second operation to replace the leaking implant. If your implant breaks, contact our office in Nashville, Tennessee to speak with a breast augmentation surgeon.

Some breast augmentation patients have experienced symptoms of arthritis-like conditions and immune system diseases. As of now, researchers have found no clear link between symptoms of connective-tissue disorders and silicone breast implants. The FDA is currently conducting further studies on the matter.

Though current evidence does not show a link between breast augmentation surgery and breast cancer, breast implants can alter the way a mammography is performed in order to detect breast cancer. Trained radiologists will need to perform special displacement techniques as breast implants may obscure breast tissue on some views.

7 Tips You Can Use to Increase Your Energy Levels

Many people suffer from a lack of energy, due to hectic lifestyles and increased stress levels at home and work. Stress causes the body to become less efficient at generating energy. Here are 7 simple, easy to follow tips to increase your energy levels.

1. Start the day with this booster drink The first thing to take after you wake up is a steaming cup of water with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. This drink will not only refresh and revitalise you, but will cleanse your palate and boost your liver function.

2. Reduce dependence on stimulants Stimulants like coffee create false energy but leave us more exhausted at deeper levels. One more cup of coffee only increases energy for the short term. Stimulants ultimately deplete our bones of their minerals, weaken our core energy, and prevent truly restful, restorative sleep.

3. Reduce your sugar intake Excess sugar causes fluctuations in blood sugar, which can result in plummeting energy levels. Refined sugar is especially bad for energy levels and should be avoided. However, if you like to take sweets once in a while, do choose those sweets with sugar. Sweets branded as sugar free, actually have artificial sweeteners which are more harmful.

4. Sleep at the right time It is well known that 8 hours of sleep per night is optimal. However, the actual time you fall asleep is important too. Hormone secretion, digestion, and other important restorative processes follow a 24-hour cycle linked to natural light exposure and there are certain times when the processes function better. Growth hormone is one such restorative hormone. Eighty percent of growth hormone, which is needed for lean muscle, optimum immune function, and strong skin, is secreted during sleep between 11 pm and 1 am.

5. Take ginseng to restore vitality Ginseng has been used for the past 7,000 years in traditional Asian medicine, and is prescribed for a variety of problems ranging from stress, failing memory, obesity and fatigue as well as a general strengthening tonic for the body. Ginseng has been used in Korea to enhance athletic performance. Ginseng helps in rejuvenating the body, detoxifying the body, improving skin and muscle tone and revving up your metabolism. It is a good supplement to take to increase your energy levels.

6. Practice deep breathing every day Stress, poor posture, a snug waistline, and habit are some of the reasons why our breath doesn't make it down to the bottom of our lungs. Diaphragmatic breathing is a simple way we can increase our energy and improve our stamina. Do this simple procedure every day. Breathe in deeply until you fill up your lungs for 6 seconds, hold your breath for 6 seconds and then continue breathing out for 6 seconds. Do this at least 4 times at the start of your day and your energy level will be restored.

7. Change your cooking oil to coconut oil Coconut oil provides a nutritional source of quick energy. It also relieves stress on the pancreas and enzyme systems of the body, allowing the enzymes to digest food efficiently. Good digestion will ensure you gain energy from nutrients in food. The fat in coconut oil is utilized by the body to produce energy instead of being stored as body fat which is the common occurrence for other fats. This is why the fat in coconut oil is the best fat to take for increased energy. Protect your immune system and nourish your health with virgin coconut oil, Go to: http://www.BuyVirginCoconutOil.com

Tired of being tired? Try this.

If you feel tired, or you’re often depressed then it can be extremely difficult to break yourself out of it! So what just should you do to turn your life around? In order to kick yourself into action, you should follow a couple of simple tips.

Depression You should think of your tiredness as depression. Most people often separate the two, however, quite often they are associated. If you’re tired then you are more than likely depressed. It’s not a chronic condition and you don’t need to use any medication, you just need to take evasive action to improve your depression. Here are some pointers to stop you feeling depressed. Make sure you hold your head up high as if you slouch then you will make yourself depressed. No slouching! Take deep breaths, when you’re depressed you probably breathe in with shallow breaths and out with long breaths.

Cut carbohydrates and sugar out of your diet, these may give you an artificial high, but that’s not really what you want. Just make sure that you are prepared for the withdrawal, there are side effects to reducing your carbohydrate intake. Be positive, focus on the good things. For example, when giving up sugar and carbs, never think of yourself giving it up – you are improving your natural energy levels. Make sure you focus on the good, that is you’re getting your life back on track. Don’t expect too much, if you have high expectations then you have more to lose. Plus, you will get yourself too worked up thinking about anything negative that might happen. Antidepressants come in many different forms, not just medication. For example, any form of aerobic exercise is an antidepressant, yoga for example is a fantastic antidepressant.

Alcohol on the other hand is not an anti-depressant, it’s the exact opposite! So avoid it as much as possible. Meditation You should try to learn some form of meditation. Personally, I think Zen is by far the best form of meditation. You can use meditation to get to know yourself.

Depression starts when you don’t like yourself. You should teach yourself to be comfortable around yourself. Just take some time out to think about what you are doing rather than writing it down. I want doesn’t get The trouble with humans is that we’re all pushy. We know exactly what we want, which in itself is no problem, but the problem comes when we want so much! If you’ve ever listened to your children 90% of what they talk about is things that they want! Don’t think about what you want and don’t want, you should think about your goals and continually re-evaluate them.

You should think about your life in small steps, all of which you can be proud of. For example, you get out of bed everyday, that in itself is an achievement! Also congratulate yourself over anything that you do, perhaps you helped an old woman with her bags, or perhaps you complemented someone. You should be proud of everything you do, stop thinking about what would make your life perfect. Live everyday to it’s full and be proud of yourself!

Do you always feel tired?

If you always feel tired then it’s no doubt frustrating, however, you can relax safe in the knowledge that you’re not the only person suffering from this condition.

I have suffered from fatigue for years. Tiredness affects many people in today’s modern society in every country in the world and I often hear my mates complaining about being tired. Most people use stimulants to give themselves an energy boost. Many people use energy drinks, caffeinated and sugary drinks as they feeling it gives them a boost. Coffee is by far the most popular stimulant in use at fighting tiredness.

As a student my liquid intake consisted mostly of coffee (and a little alcohol of course!). If you are tired in the morning, then a cup of coffee might be enough to motivate you. However, if you are always tired then stimulants are unlikely to work, they can actually cause you to be more tired because you are forcing your body to work harder.

If you are tired all of the time then you need to treat the condition rather than the symptom. Coffee is thought to relieve the tiredness symptoms, right? So why would it cause more tiredness? Even if you know that you’re tired, a cup of coffee will force your body into working more. Caffeine triggers a type of gland, the adrenal gland, to produce adrenalin. The effects of this release of adrenalin are short lived, they won’t last long.

They will help you to feel better for a little while. After the effects have worn off you will feel worse than before as your body is even more exhausted. When you feel tired you may feel the need to enjoy another cup of coffee, you see it’s a vicious circle! It’s easy to get caught up in the coffee drinking cycle, thinking it will make you feel better. Everybody at work does it. You can see the queue forming in the kitchen prior to a long meeting to ensure they get their caffeine fix. However, as a result of your coffee addiction it will make you feel worse, also the coffee can make you irritable and cause you to endure headaches.

If you’re always tired then coffee won’t help you, it only works as a temporary pick me up. Stimulants only mask the symptoms of the tiredness, they do not actually treat the condition at the root of the problem. And so even though the symptoms are being treated, it won’t help you. Stimulants will cause you to continue pushing your body too hard, it just can’t continue doing what it’s doing at the moment and so you will be left suffering from chronic tiredness.

If you’re always tired then it’s important to stop doing whatever you’re doing to make yourself tired. You should stop drinking coffee! Of course you should probably try to wean yourself off the coffee rather than quitting cold turkey. If you can’t give up coffee completely then you should at least cut down the amount you drink. Try to reduce the amount that you drink every day.

Of course few people actually want to do this for one reason or another. Drinking coffee becomes a sociable habit which you partake in with work colleagues, friends and family.

If you’re not willing to cut down on your coffee intake then you should at least drink your coffee at the same time each day. This really does make a difference, as your body will get used to this. Your body knows when it will be getting its coffee fix, and so adapts and is ready to accept this. This reduces some of the negative effects caused by coffee. Now if you need an extra incentive to cut out your coffee then here goes…If you drink too much coffee then it can actually cause an iron deficiency known as anemia, vitamin deficiencies, or adrenal exhaustion. None of those really sound like a walk in the park now do they

Weight Loss and Exercise For a Growing Child

Recently I was asked this question: "Dianne, do you know any good websites for ballet? I'd like to know them. Also,How do I lose weight? I want to exercise but I can't get myself to. How can I do that. I'd like to run everyday. When's the best time in the day? Best exercise plan? And also, how do I lose my extra belly fat? I weight about 100 pounds and I'm only 11!I hate eating
healthy foods but if it'll make me skinnier, what good foods should I eat? Thank you for answering these questions!!"

Here is my answer and honestly, I truly tried to keep it short!

"It is wonderful that you are interested in being healthy and strong - losing weight will happen if you eat well and exercise well.

Since you don't like to exercise, but say that you like to run, I assume you are not a dance student. You are eating the wrong foods, to have become overweight. Since I don't know how tall you are, or what kind of skeletal frame you have, I don't know exactly how much you should weigh right now.

Fresh, unprocessed foods are the only foods you should be eating! Is that bad news? That doesn't mean you can't have a piece of pizza on the weekend like when you're with friends, but, daily, you need some lean proteins, (soft cooked eggs, meats, chicken, fish, tofu if you like it --) and fresh vegetables, fruits and salads, at least 50% raw. You can make some yummy dips, from lemon juice and olive oil, grated cheese or sour cream, and add some ranch flavoring, or flavor it as you like with other herbs.

Nuts, celery, fruit and yogurt are great snacks. If you have sweet cravings, you will have to avoid sweets for a couple of weeks altogether to make that go away. You may have headaches and energy highs and lows during that time, but it's kind of like drug withdrawal. Sugar acts like a drug in our bodies. Our system has to get used to running on real food again, with minimal sugar.

Packaged diet foods with artificial flavors are full of unhealthy chemicals. Do you know that when medical researchers want to quickly fatten mice up for an experiment they give them artificial sweeteners? The same kind of food chemicals that are in diet sodas, which make you crave carbs!

If you have true energy problems, ask your parents to take you to your doctor for a general physical. It's good to know that your body is okay. Most medical doctors would say I'm too strict on the diet part, but I am a dancer and that's what works. I do not think you should ever be hungry or feel deprived - but what you choose to snack on stores as fat, or not. Carbs like chips, crackers, and breads are useless calories. They do not build your bones and muscles, or brain cells.

"Protein Power" by the medical doctors Eades and Eades, is an informative book. It explains how the body metabolises efficiently - that is, creates energy for you. The body can do this without any sugar at all! In fact, meats and vegetables have carb content, and that is enough for us.

Oils and fats are extremely important to eat - but, choose the healthy ones. Flax seed oil and olive oil are the most common oils to make salad dressings from. Most store bought salad dressings have heavier oils in them, and nearly always sugar. (And chemicals).

Butter is good for you, and so is the fat in eggs, but keep the yolks soft. Not eating any fat is BAD for you. Just don't eat too much, and how much is not too much, is relative to how often and how hard you exercise.

Here's a book you might like: "Slow Burn" by Stu Mittleman. He is a champion runner. He talks about the right shoes, the right diet, the right training routines, in a lot of detail. http://www.worldultrafit.com is his web site.

This is an overview. You need to read about health and diet and explore what will work for you.

Finally, web sites about ballet: http://www.theballetstore.com has articles, books, DVDs, a store, a full ballet glossary and more; Deborah Vogel's http://www.thebodyseries.com is an excellent site with many technical articles, books about ballet and anatomy, and instructional DVDs; http://www.balletshoesandpointeshoes.blogspot.com has an extensive list of articles regarding all of the above!.

I hope this is helpful.

Women’s Hairpieces Offset The Devastation of Female Hair Loss

As a woman, losing your hair is never an easy thing, whether it be due to illness, genetics, bad health, or just plain bad luck. Lucky enough, women’s hairpieces come a lot more often and are a great deal less expensive than they were in the past. It could be that the need for them has risen, or the shame level associated with women’s hairpieces has decreased.

At any rate, consider hairpieces if you are experiencing any type of hair loss, as an option. The great thing about women’s hairpieces is that they afford the wearer many opportunities that those who still have all of their hair are not afforded. Who else can be a redhead one day, a brunette the next day, and a blonde the next? Without destroying one’s hair, this is not possible for those who are tied down to their natural hair.

There are people out there who design women’s hairpieces for a living. As professional hairdressers, they cut, color, and style hairpieces to fit the needs of the wearer, or just for general use. Women’s hairpieces are available at most wig stores these days, and in many beauty supplies for very reasonable prices, so feel free to stay on your budget and explore your options! So if you are losing your hair, or know a woman who is, consider women’s hairpieces as an option if other prevention or restoration methods have failed. Often times, hair loss is genetic and simply cannot be avoided, but with the advancement of stylish women’s hairpieces, that is no longer the end of the world.

How To Deal With Hair Loss

If you happen to suffer from hair loss it can be emotionally stressful, although it is not the end of the world, and doesn't have to be a major problem. Have a look at your lifestyle and see if you can help improve your hair's condition. When you first notice some hair loss, go and see your doctor, he/she will be able to diagnose any underlying problems and if there are any, will implement a treatment programme. Make sure you keep in contact with your doctor while having any treatment so that you can both monitor any progress and whether the treatment is in fact effective.

If you need some temporary coverage there are some good modern wigs available. Do not be put off by the old image of wigs, as the quality is a lot better now and they can actually look quite realistic. Of course this is not an ideal solution, but for a temporary problem this should be fine. Other temporary solutions include hats or other types of headwear. Male pattern baldness Male pattern baldness is very common, and very often hereditary, and a lot of men will experience it to some degree at some point in their lives. It can it can be very hard to deal with if it occurs at an early age.

In my opinion it becomes less important the older you get. Most importantly make sure that you don't let hair loss ruin your life. It may only be a temporary thing, and could grow back at the start of your next natural growth cycle. Try not to dwell on your condition too much as this could well hinder the recovery progress, and could cause you to become depressed and sorrowful. A couple of positive steps are to make sure you have a healthy balanced diet and look after the hair you have left. There are much more serious medical conditions that people have to suffer, so it really is not the end of the world if you lose your hair. Try to retain your confidence in your abilities and concentrate on this rather than your appearance, as, when all said and done it isn't really that important. Worse things happen at sea.

The Cost Of Hair Transplants – Is it worth it?

Hair transplant surgery is not an inexpensive thing. While many people feel it is an extremely worthwhile one, it is a rather hefty investment. Not only is it an investment in your health, but hair transplant surgery is an investment in your looks as well, which can have significant bearing on other things. Depending on the reasons for your hair loss and how it affects your life, ask yourself is the cost of hair transplant surgery worth the results to you? The average cost of hair transplant surgery is $5,000, but it can range anywhere from $2,000 to nearly $10,000 quite easily. The variance in price has to do with the number of sessions needed to complete the total transplant program and how well your body adjusts to the transplants. It also depends on which surgeon you use to perform the hair transplant for you, as the cost of hair transplant surgery for one physician may be different from the cost of hair transplant surgery from another physician. Is the cost of hair transplant surgery worth it to you? Does your thinning hair have a direct affect on the way that you feel, as a result of a change in the way that you look? These are questions that each individual must answer for himself. What ever is decided, the choice is ultimately yours. However you should also consider, the cost of hair transplant surgery is a mere trifle compared to the happiness that its success would bring, but it is quite an investment and it must be carefully considered.

Yoga for Hair Loss Prevention

If you are suffering from hair loss and you don’t want to go under the knife, then yoga could be the answer. According to some yoga gurus, there is little solution for hair loss problems in western medicine. Hair loss in men & women is a universal phenomena caused by hereditary problems, poor diets, stress etc. Only one western prescription product minoxidil has some acceptance as a cure of hair loss. However minoxidil has little or no effect when there is actual baldness rather than thinning.
Yoga postures can help you overcome stress, anxiety, and indigestion, poor blood circulation in head, which are considered as main causes of hair loss. Headstand yoga pose can be very helpful as it contributes blood circulation in head as well as relieves tension.
Following are some of the of yogas which can help you to remove stress and improve blood circulation in head.

Divya Kesh Tail (Hair Oil for Hair Loss, Dandruff and Headache), which is produced by Swami Ramdev’s Divya pharmacy, can be a great cure for hair loss problems. This oil has ingredients like Bhringa-raja, Brahmi, Amalakl (Amala), Shweta Chandana & other constituents.
You can also try Reflexology by buffing of your fingernails of one hand against the other on a regular basis preferably daily twice or thrice for 5 minutes.

Meditation is another way to overcome hair loss problem as it can control stress. Sit in proper pose and observe your breathing.

Depression

Depression is a very serious matter, which does not discriminate.
Depression doe not care what your age is, what gender you are,
or even what your race or social class is.

Depression can often make a person feel sad, helpless, hopeless,
and irritable. It is normal for people to have these feeling
sometimes, but some people cannot just snap out of it and this is
the difference between what is normal and major depression. It is
the determination and brutality of the emotions that determine the
mental illness of depression from normal mood changes.

We are going to talk about different types of depression and how
it can affect you. Depression is an illness that affects your body,
mind, disposition, thought, sleep, energy, concentration, weight,
and much more. Depression is not a mood, it is not a sign of
personal weakness, and it cannot be simply willed away.

Clinical depression is constant and can interfere significantly with
an individual's ability to function by emotional experiences of
sadness, loss, or passing mood states. Clinical depression can be
devastating to all areas of a person's everyday life, including family
relationships, friendships, and the ability to work or go to school.

Bipolar disorder (manic-depression) is a mood disorder, which
means that the symptoms are abnormalities of mood. Bipolar
disorder involves episodes of both serious mania and depression.
Bipolar disorder can have a devastating impact on sufferer's lives
and can lead to suicide if it is not treated.

Major depression is a more common illness, the symptoms of which
are mainly those of 'low' mood.

Causes

Several things can cause depression; one of the causes can be
attributed to a deficiency of certain neurotransmitters in the brain
that signal from one nerve cell to another. The immune system of
a depressed person is usually very low and therefore ineffectively
responding to diseases, including cancer. The everyday stressors
faced by Americans have simply become too much for many to
bear, and reasonably so. In recent years, taking an anti-anxiety
medication or anti-depressant has become as common as taking a
multi-vitamin.

How to Alleviate

Two amino acids are known to alleviate depression in many
persons. They are tyrosine and L-phenylalanine. The two amino
acids are a natural precursor of certain neurotransmitters.

You can't afford what?

Perhaps the only thing worse than depression is having
depression and not being able to afford treatment. Needy Meds is
a website that offers all the information you need to get your meds
free, just click the name of your drug in the list on the left side of
the page.

The Medicine Program is for people who do not have insurance and
do not qualify for government programs you may qualify to enroll in
a privately sponsored program. They do charge a $5 processing
fee but the medications themselves are free. Volunteers staff this
organization and the processing fee covers their expenses. This
company will contact the drug manufacturer on your behalf, or you
can choose to contact the drug companies themselves.
Free Samples - Often pharmaceutical companies provide physicians
with free samples. Ask your doctor is he/she has any samples on
hand of your medication.

Depression - Disorderly Conduct

People tend to sense uncertainty to the real meaning behind the word depression, trying to determine the difference between a depressive illness to that of a miserable mood can be tricky at times. In the medical world doctors use the word depression in different terms.
Symptoms of a depressive illness and gloomy dismal feelings are very much like a duplicated source therefore a solid excuse for any confusion.

Almost anyone can suffer from depression some people see this illness as a sign of weakness, how far from the truth that is. Depression is a common ailment and is treatable. Someone who may have in the past experienced a bout of depression can expect the risk of a repeat dose.

Approx 5/10 per cent of the population has had or are suffering from depression.
They say women are more susceptible to suffer than that of the male species.

People intend to question themselves or that of others as to why more are prone to this illness than that of other people. Has it anything to do with an individual's personality.

Personality types differ greatly but this has nothing to do with why certain people in particular develop the illness. How ever there are slight risk factors that have been known (genetic factors inherited) from parents or their parents.

Mystery lurks behind why some people suffer from this illness but there are ways of identifying why it may have developed in others. Stressful events like bereavement, losing a job or even moving house can riddle you with depression.

Depression, can strike at any time just like that of the common cold. And it is clear how the brain pattern changes when a person is depressed. Modern scans of the brain have deciphered just how hard the brain works and has found that certain parts like the front do not work as expected. It is also found that a patient has higher than what you would call normal levels of stress hormones.

Feelings experienced with depressive illness can stay with the patient for weeks sometimes running into months.

Disorderly Conduct of the brain.

This is a psychological disorder which is hard to understand due to the trail of physical side effects one being total exhaustion. Other known facts are, depressed people dream up to three times more that of the non sufferer.

Major discoveries in psychology has given us hope in having a better understanding of what depression is all about. With the outcome of recent research there are now answers to questions that have baffled a great many in the past

Standing your ground by facing up to what may be the cause behind your discomfort is a step in the right direction. If the death of a loved etc has caused the pain/sorrow then the cure is time, time heals so they say. For every venomous predator namely diseases etc that takes you as prey, remember there is an antidote.

If you have any concerns about yourself or that of another person please talk to your local GP.

Talking to Others About Your Depression

Let others know you are depressed can be a difficult thing for many to be done. It is only our natural tendency to keep things bottled inside for safety. But speaking with other loved ones of trust can greatly reduce the heavy weight on us of the symptoms of depression. As obvious as his depression may be for you, it may not be so easily seen by others.

The person you begin to discuss with their situation could become alarm immediately and I think you are suicidal. While suicide is certainly high in thinking those suffering from depression is not always the case. It is more than likely that you are not so suicidal to explain to them. Explain the symptoms of depression and what makes the experience, and that donÂ't just disappear overnight or by themselves.

That person knows that there are options are available to help with her depression, but that is not a quick and easy recovery. More than likely you will receive emotional support it needs from the person, and hopefully you will be feeling a bit better after doing so.

How do I find the right psychotherapist for me?

One question asked me quite often finding someone who is psychotherapy, "How can I find a psychotherapist for me?" The first thing I recommend is to ask around a referral from family members, friends and coworkers. Then I realize there is still a stigma about receiving psychological help.

Many people simply do not feel comfortable asking people in their own lives. Either they do not want others to know that they need help, or are afraid to make other people uncomfortable when asked!

1. Ask people you know for a suggestion. My first suggestion is even ask about (which you feel comfortable asking). In the meantime, I believe we must do more education on psychological problems so that people do not feel judged when they need help.

2. Check the yellow pages.
The yellow pages is still second to word of mouth referrals for psychotherapy. Yellow Pages advertising generally requires that professionals be licensed to list in certain categories.

While going to a professional license does not guarantee a good therapeutic fit, you can make certain assumptions: This is professional education and training needed to pass the licensing requirements in the State. This is professional ethical standards to be maintained, and if not, you have recourse to disciplinary action. This probably has to have professional continuing education in their field to keep his license. This professional must follow certain professional guidelines in the administration of treatment for their patients. Categories professionals who look under are psychotherapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, Marriage and Family Therapists, Social Workers, Councillors. Setting the categories of work are: Mental Health, Social Service Organizations, Centers for Crisis Intervention, domestic violence and Women's Shelter, Alcohol and Drug treatment centers, Human Service Organizations. These may vary slightly in their local phone lists, but you get the idea. The Internet is also a source for finding reputable professionals to help. Only to see the same credentials that you look for other sources of reference. As a point of clarification, psychologists have a doctorate and doing psychotherapy and psychological tests. Psychiatrists are MD or DO (doctor) with a specialty in psychiatry. Hence, they can also be found under Doctors in your yellow pages. Psychiatrists can prescribe and administer psychotropic medications, but most do not psychotherapy.

3. Get a referral from another professional Other professionals dealing with people at risk, like other therapists, doctors, chiropractors, massage therapists, lawyers, offices of Human Resources in businesses, teachers and school psychologists and counselors, and the Police and All courts may be appropriate sources for referral. Some communities also have referral systems. For example, medical reference, which is a service call.

What kind of professional help that work best for me? Let's go through some differences in the therapists: Do they feel more comfortable with a man or a woman? Is Cree that you can connect better with a younger or older therapist? D Do you need to have a professional who accepts your insurance?

Do you need a therapist with night or weekend? Do you work better with a certain treatment approach or style? Want a therapist that is conducive to your lifestyle? For example, a therapist who is gay / lesbian / bisexual / transgender saying. As a note, sometimes customers think they can not obtain the understanding of a therapist unless the therapist has had the same experiences. For example, "I can not go to a therapist who has never married," or "She can not understand, she never had children, or" He is advising me, and he is divorced! "He never lost anyone, how he could know how I feel. "There is a reason why therapists do not talk about his personal life, and this is one of them. Psychologists through extensive training to become professionals in their field.

Part of that training involves the therapist often becoming the patient so that they can work through their own personal affairs before trying to help others. Just as the doctor has not had all diseases, psychologists have not experienced every human experience, but they learn through training and experience. Now take a look at his situation? Do you need someone who specializes in your problem? unless a therapist lists a specialty in particular its advertising, most of the therapists are general practitioners and can handle most of the problems. Do you need medication? Most of the time a person does not know if they need medication. In this case, it's generally better to schedule an appointment with someone other than a psychiatrist. If you need a psychiatrist, you will be referred to one . Does the problem is more a matter of individual or a question of relationships? If the majority of its misery arising from his relationship and your partner is ready, start with a license Marriage and Family therapist.

These professionals have taken additional training and experience that qualify for specifics for Marriage and Family Therapist licensing. Again, this does not guarantee they will be good therapists, but it does mean that they have complied with certain requirements on the ground. If you have sexual difficulties, can wishing to apply for help from a certified sex therapist. I think it is better to seek professional help from graduate who also has experience and training in sexual dysfunction.
The scope of the Sex Therapy is a little less regulated than the others mentioned, so you want to make sure that this person is someone who is renowned. What kind of psythotherapy you feel would be most helpful to you This is a question most people do not know how to respond. What kinds are there? This is why which is helpful to talk with a friend who has been there. I'm first and foremost a cognitive therapist, for example, but I do not expect you to know that. And I do not list my primary treatment preference to any publicity because I like to be somewhat eclectic in my approach.
I would answer that question when you call for an appointment if you asked me. Certainly, I would like to discuss my approach when they came for their first appointment. If you suffer from an anxiety disorder, I use a program exclusively cognitive / behavioral, if you came to for PTSD, I would like to add some other treatment modalities specific to that disorder. Marriage Counseling, although cognitive, it is a little different from individual therapy. For example, I use more structure, more homework, and I'm more active couples. It works better and gets more progress towards health more quickly.

What is the average duration of treatment? This is probably the most varied responses from everyone. Some have chronic and severe mental illness and the need involvement of a psychiatrist and medication for a therapist for initial treatment and then follow up at regular adjective as changes occur in the same state throughout life. Some are more difficult acute disorders as a major depressive disorder also may need medication and weekly therapy until the depression is reduced.

Of those who take antidepressant medication, some of them remain in medication for years to maintain health. Most stay on medication for 6 months to 2 years, depending on their particular case. Disorders Conduct of the Food and posttraumatic stress disorder, for example, can be stubborn to treat insofar as they have affected many levels of life of customers. In most cases difficult PTSD, two or three years of therapy it is not unusual. In the case of eating disorders, it can take longer. This is just a small sample of the possibilities, it really depends on the customer's response to therapy and your life situation and resources available to them in the community.
For people eating disorders, for example, there are excellent programs for inpatient treatment that can save lives, and the therapy would monitor it. Hopefully, he shed little light on the mysterious world of psychotherapy. These are suggestions for finding a therapist. One of the things that do not deal is "the personality factor." Actually there is no way to access their level of comfort with a therapist until they meet with him or her. Since The first session is usually gathering information, give the new therapist two or three sessions to see if their personalities are compatible to enter this important relationship of trust with each other.
